Soul of the Street (SOS) :- One of Victoria's recent projects (Summer 2011)
Soul of the Street is a dynamic presentation of new media technologies integrated with installation artwork fused with live improvisational performances to create a distinct form of living archive and landscape. By The Factory Media Arts Association with the financial support of the Canada Council for the Arts and The Ontario Arts Council.
Artasia - Culture for Kids in the Arts
In the summer of 2011, Victoria was invited to work as a sound artist with Artasia, project of Culture for Kids in the Arts. Artasia is a children's environmental project to revision and reimagine the neighbourhoods where they live. Read more about Artasia in the Hamilton Spectator's August 4 article.
Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC)
Founded in 1986, the Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC) is Canada’s official national association
for electroacoustics and as such is dedicated to promoting this progressive art form in its broadest definition:
from acousmatic and computer music to soundscape and sonic art to hardware hacking and beyond.
Musicworks :- “Rare and Daring Explorations in Sound”
For more than twenty years, MUSICWORKS has provided readers worldwide with artists' perspectives on the exploration of new and possible music and sound -- sounds as yet unfamiliar to (most of) our ears. Articles cover topics from music's relationship to society, through discussion of musical creators, to commentaries on sonic phenomena.
New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA)
NAISA, based in Toronto, that produces performances and installations spanning the entire spectrum of electroacoustic and experimental sound art. The objectives of NAISA are to foster awareness and understanding locally, as well as nationally and internationally, in the cultural vitality of experimental sound art in its myriad forms of expression. NAISA does three major festivals each year: The Deep Wireless Radio Art Festival; Sound Travels and Soundplay.
Canadian Association for Sound Ecology (CASE)
Formed in 1996 as the Canadian Affiliate Organization of the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology (WFAE), The Canadian Association for Sound Ecology/ Association canadienne pour L’écologie sonore is a coalition of Canadian individuals and institutions concerned with the state of the soundscape.
Darren Copeland
Another one of Victoria's mentors, Darren is an electroacoustic composer, sound artist and Artistic Director of New Adventures in Sound Art. He is constantly in demand for commissions and events nationally because of his compositional and artistic imagination and extensive knowledge of audio technology.
Sound Landscapes
Soundlandscapes Blog is a site with exquisite field recordings, poetic imagery in both word and picture. It is dedicated to sound, mostly recordings of the street sounds of Paris ... capturing that gratuitous, never-ending show for which no ticket is needed. But there are some other hidden sound treasures too. Living Out Loud - CBC Radio
produced by award winning documentarian and storyteller, Steve Wadhams, Living Out Loud is the successor to Outfront, one of the most creative audio storytelling programs that CBC has ever broadcast. Personal storytelling at its very best.
Hildegard Westerkamp
Hildegard Westerkamp, composer, radio artist and sound ecologist, is one of the most influential and respected artists in Canada working with the soundscape form. Her work has inspired two generations of sound artists in Canada, including Victoria.
Andra McCartney
Andra is one of Victoria favourite sound artists who bases her practice on Soundwalking. Andra's current website is a summary of several of her projects: Soundwalking Interactions; In and Out of the Studio (of which Victoria was a participant); a collection of soundwalks as well as soundscape projects of the Lachine Canal (Montreal) and Kingston Ontario.
The World Forum for Acoustic-Ecology (WFAE)
Founded in 1993, is an international association of affiliated organizations, and individuals, who share a common concern with the state of the world soundscape as an ecologically balanced entity. Members represent an interdisciplinary profession engaged in the study of the scientific, social, and cultural aspects of natural and human made sound environments.
Third Coast International Audio Festival
Known in some circles as “The Sundance Festival for Audio”, Third Coast was established in 2001 in Chicago and has consistently presented some of the best audio to be heard world wide.
Transom
A showcase for new radio production that also has production tools and tips that are useful to audio producers of any skill level and ability. A wealth of compelling listening material, information about events and people who are creating new artworks for the radio and internet world.
